How we practice
As we said, we are all too frequently not living the lives that our bodies were designed for, especially with regard to movement.
We can help bridge the gap between what you can do and what you want to do with your body. Recreate your ability. Whether you are struggling with an overuse injury, a sporting injury, a workplace injury, or persistent pain, we can help you to ...
move better, feel better and live better.
We will examine & assess you and your pain and provide you with an all important diagnosis. We give individual advice and education, treat with an eclectic range of manual therapy techniques, and recommend active rehabilitation for all sorts of musculoskeletal issues - including acute and persistent pain, back, neck & spinal pain, sprains, strains, whiplash, headache, muscle & joint problems, and sporting injuries.
Soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament, connective fascia) problems give you joint problems; joint problems give you soft tissue problems. They are always related. If you have either one, you will get the other.
It's the way your body works. We’ll help explain it to you.
A pain problem in muscles or joints means you have a movement problem. And the movement problem is almost certainly NOT where you are hurting.
Pain begins before reaching a breaking point; it is a call to action. We aim to address this by imposing on your soft tissues, your joints, your nervous system and your movement patterns. By moving better, you can feel and perform better. That’s what we are here to help you with.
No one discipline has all the answers. Chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage, sports medicine and exercise science each have something to offer. We utilise a range of skills and know-how drawn from the world of science-informed manual and sports & exercise medicine. We provide a unique blend of one-on-one manual therapy and movement rehabilitation.
This is not 5 minute medicine. Our consultations & treatment necessarily need time (40 / 60min sessions), curiosity and attention to detail. We are deliberately small scale but high quality.
Endless treatment packages are not our go. However, we encourage early intervention. Change is expected quickly and the nature of the treatment is largely dose-dependent and cumulative, i.e. each treatment / recommendation builds on the previous one. If the condition is something that is likely to recur, we have a strategy to manage it.
We will be able to give you a more accurate time frame for recovery following your initial appointment. However, it would be unreasonable to expect a problem that is a few weeks old or more to disappear after 1 or 2 treatments. As a guide, minor complaints usually require 3-5 treatments, longer term issues 4-8 treatments.
Over time, the idea of a ‘tune-up’ periodically to keep things on track, say every 4-8 weeks, might start to make sense.
That’s really our specialty.
